Melissa Nelson is a Ph.D. Candidate in cultural ecology at the University of California at Davis. Her research focuses on Native American environmental justice and cultural restoration at the new Presidio National Park in San Francisco, a recently converted military base. She serves as president of The Cultural Conservancy, a native nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of traditional cultures and their ancestral lands and is on the board of directors of the United Religions Initiative. Melissa is a member of the Turtle Mountain band of Chippewa Indians.
