George Rupp is President of Columbia University, a position he has held since 1993. A native of New Jersey, he graduated from Princeton University, received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Yale University, and was awarded a Ph.D. in the study of religion from Harvard University. Before joining Columbia, he was President of Rice University and Dean of Harvard Divinity School. Dr. Rupp is the author of four books, including Beyond Existentialism and Zen: Religion in a Pluralistic World and Commitment and Community.
