Ismail Serageldin holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and is currently Vice President of the World Bank for Special Programs. He is chairman of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the Consultative Group to Assist the Poorest (CGAP), and the Global Water Partnership (GWP). He is also co-chair of the NGO-Bank Committee. Dr. Serageldin has worked in a number of capacities at the World Bank since joining in 1972. Prior to joining the World Bank he worked as a consultant in City and Regional Planning, and taught at Cairo University and Harvard University. He has published over 35 books and monographs and 200 articles and book chapters on various topics. Some of his most recent publications are Nurturing Development (1995), Sustainability and the Wealth of Nations (1996), The Architecture of Empowerment (1997), and Rural Well-Being: From Vision to Action (1997), with David Steeds.
