| Annotation: | Levi-Strauss provides some background on the reception and criticism of his structuralist methodology by utilizing a mythological analysis of two related myths. Highlighting land/water connections and its symbolism, he illustrates two types of determinism. A mild defense of structuralist methodology, Levi-Strauss enumerates how it can recover dim but deeper truths as well as reconcile otherwise opposing dichotomies. |
